- Q: How do you remove and install the Parking Brake Cable on Chevrolet Tracker?A: Release the parking brake and, for Sidekick/X-90/Nitara and Tracker models, loosen the rear wheel lug nuts. Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the rear wheel and brake drum, then loosen the self-locking nut fully. Remove the Brake Shoes and disconnect the parking brake cable end from the parking brake lever. Compress the cable housing retainer tangs at the brake backing plate to free the cable and housing, then push them through the backing plate. Remove the self-locking nut and disconnect the cable at the lever, prying the cable out of the slot in the frame bracket. For Samurai models, use pliers to remove the parking brake lever return spring, then take out the clip and pin. Loosen the stopper nut and remove the adjusting nut while holding the hold nut to prevent the inner cable from twisting, adjusting until the parking brake lever travel is as specified. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring the parking brake is adjusted properly.
