Q: How to Remove and Install Leaf Springs on Chevrolet Avalanche,Silverado,Suburban,Tahoe,GMC Sierra,Yukon,Yukon Denali and Yukon XL?
A: To remove the left or either leaf spring, first relieve the fuel system pressure. Loosen the rear wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the rear wheels and trailer hitch if equipped. If removing the left leaf spring, remove the fuel tank. If removing the right leaf spring, unbolt the rear portion of the exhaust system and detach it from its rubber hangers. Support the axle with a floor jack and remove the U-bolt nuts, spring plate, and U-bolts. Remove the front and rear mounting bolts and lower the jack to remove the spring assembly. If necessary, remove the shackle from the spring and replace worn bushings. To install, place the spring in position and install the forward mounting bolt and shackle, but don't tighten the nuts yet. Raise the axle and install the spring plate and new U-bolts, then tighten the nuts to the specified torque. Tighten the front and rear mounting bolts and complete the reverse of the removal procedure. Finally, install the wheels and lug nuts, lower the vehicle, and tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque.
