To remove the wiper motor transmission, start by taking off the wiper arm dust caps and nuts, marking the relationship of the wiper arms to their shafts, and then removing both wiper arms. Next, take off the cowl cover, disconnect the electrical connector from the wiper motor, and remove the mounting bolts of the windshield wiper motor transmission assembly before taking out the assembly itself. The wiper motor and transmission should be removed as a complete unit, with installation following the reverse order of removal. For the wiper motor, mark the transmission drive link arm to the motor shaft, carefully pry the transmission drive link arm off the motor crank ball stud, and then remove the motor mounting bolts to detach the motor from the wiper transmission, again reversing the process for installation. When dealing with the windshield washer fluid pump and reservoir, if working on a 2015 or earlier model or a 2016 Malibu Limited, remove the left-side inner fender liner; for a 2016 or later model (excluding Malibu Limited), remove the front bumper cover. Place a drain pan under the washer fluid reservoir to catch any spills, disconnect the washer hoses from the pump, and then disconnect the electrical connectors.
