The Secondary Air Injection Pump of Chevrolet Malibu is part of the Air Injection Reactor system which functions to introduce fresh air into the exhaust system to enhance the oxidation of unburned fuel and in the process minimize emission of Hydrocarbons (HC) and Carbon Monoxide (CO). This system usually comprises of an electric or belt-driven air pump, an air control valve and additionally numerous check valves that control the flow of the air relative to the temperature of the engine or the conditions under which the vehicle is being operated.
