Q: How to disconnect and remove the heater core in a Chevrolet Malibu?
A: Before being disconnected, the battery should be disconnected and the power seat(s) should be moved fully to the rear. To begin with 2015 and earlier 2.0L models and all 2.5L models just unfasten the cable from the negative battery terminal. After that, drain off cooling system and reserve coolant if it is in good condition. The clamps which hold heater hoses at firewall should be released before disconnecting them. Take away left sided insulating panel and driver's knee bolster. Fold back front carpet until heater core is exposed.Pull out driver side rear floor duct then unclip heater core tube clamps.Remove heater core bracket after that disconnect tubes from heater core.Remove heater core gently from car.For 2016 and beyond use a professional to discharge air conditioning system on 1.5L and 2.0L models.Disconnect cable from negative battery terminal then remove coolant.Release clamps around heater hoses on firewall then detach them.Let loose line at TXV valve.Undo instrument panel among others like brake and accelerator pedal assembly.HVAC housing fasteners are removed from engine compartment side.Heater tube seals are taken out along with support bracket fastener.Spread apart brackets on HVAC housing then pull out heater core sideways through housing. When installing, fill the cooling system with the proper mixture of antifreeze and water.Run the engine until normal operating temperature is reached.Look at coolant level again; top up as necessary. Finally, get a professional to evacuate, recharge or leak-test this system lest you do it yourself.
