Chevrolet K1500 Voltage Regulator

The Voltage Regulator in Chevrolet K1500 vehicles help to keep the voltage of the alternator steady and does not let it go to high that may damage the battery or other electrical appliances present in the car. Through the means of regulating the field current of the alternator rotor by means of the battery voltage and the system requirements, the charging voltage is maintained between 13.5 to 14.5 volts. Early manufactured K1500 cars came equipped with mechanical voltage regulators which have been upgraded with electronic solid state ones in later models. These sorts of regulators are in the solid-state and cycle much faster than mechanical regulators offering better control of the charging system. On some of the latest K1500 cars, the duty of voltage regulator is performed by PCM, which can adjust the circumstances such as temperature of battery, load of engine, and electrical requirement to meet charging system efficiency.

Chevrolet K1500 Voltage Regulator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace Alternator Brush and Voltage Regulator for Chevrolet C1500 and K1500?
A: The procedure for replacing parts in early-model SI type Alternators is as follows: First, remove the alternator from the vehicle. Then, scribe or paint marks on the front and rear end frame housings to aid in reassembly. Next, remove the four through-bolts holding the end frames together and separate them. Remove the bolts holding the stator to the rear end frame and detach the stator. Remove the nuts attaching the diode trio to the rectifier bridge and remove the trio. Remove the screws attaching the resistor, Voltage Regulator, and brush holder to the end frame, and detach the brush holder. Remove the brushes from the brush holder by slipping off the brush retainer and remove the springs. To reinstall, start by installing the brushes in the brush holder, starting with the brush closest to the end frame. Use a paper clip to hold the brushes in place while completing reassembly. The paper clip should not be removed until the end frames are bolted together.
