Chevrolet K1500 Automatic Transmission Filter

Originally, the Automatic Transmission Filter is used for the Chevrolet K1500 to separate contamination that affects the range of transmission systems while cleaning the fluid. This process of filtration is important in eliminating blockage in the passages through which fluids flow; this in turn helps to reduce drag on moving parts and quit possible damages which are very expensive. Automatic Transmission Filters that has been used in Chevrolet K1500 model of different years are as follows. The most frequent type is the internal one that is installed directly in the transmission case and can be accessed when the transmission is dismantled and one has to remove a specific pan called the fluid pan. Some of K1500 models could also have external spin-on or cartridge-type filters as lighter kinds that are easier to change and have better filtration. Also in-line filters can be incorporated in the system for better protection against undesirable particles while at the same time allowing for flow of the fluid. In summary, the Automatic Transmission Filter is crucial for extending the life of the transmission of Chevrolet K1500 automobiles as well as increasing their operational efficiency and decreasing the probability of failure.

Chevrolet K1500 Automatic Transmission Filter Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to drain and replace transmission fluid and Transmission Filter for Chevrolet C1500 and K1500?
A: At the specified intervals, the transmission fluid should be drained and replaced. The fluid will remain hot long after driving, so perform this procedure only after the engine has cooled down completely. Before beginning work, purchase the specified transmission fluid and a new filter. Other tools necessary for this job include a floor jack, jack stands to support the vehicle in a raised position, a drain pan capable of holding at least eight pints, newspapers and clean rags. Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the center transmission mount nut. Use a floor jack positioned under the transmission pan to raise the transmission slightly. Place a block of wood between the pan and jack head to prevent damage to the pan. Once the transmission Is raised, insert a small wood block between the mount and crossmember. Place the drain pan underneath the transmission pan. Remove the front and side pan mounting bolts, but only loosen the rear pan bolts approximately four turns. Carefully pry the transmission pan loose with a screwdriver, allowing the fluid to drain. Remove the remaining bolts, pan and gasket. Carefully clean the gasket surface of the transmission to remove all traces of the old gasket and sealant. Drain the fluid from the transmission pan, clean it with solvent and dry it with compressed air. Remove the filter from the mount inside the transmission. If the seal did not come out with the filter, remove it from the transmission. Install a new filter and seal. Make sure the gasket surface on the transmission pan is clean, then install a new gasket on the pan. Put the pan in place against the transmission and, working around the pan, tighten each bolt a little at a time until the final torque figure is reached. Lower the vehicle and add approximately seven pints of the specified type of automatic transmission fluid through the filler tube. With the transmission in Park and the parking brake set, run the engine at a fast idle, but don't race it. Move the gear selector through each range and back to Park. Check the fluid level. It will probably be low. Add enough fluid to bring the level up to the COLD FULL range on the dipstick. Check under the vehicle for leaks during the first few trips.
