To protect axleshaft, the drive axle should be placed in a vise lined with rags when replacing the inner CV joint boot. Excessive play and smooth operation should be checked on the CV joint. The joint needs disassembly, cleaning and inspection for damage in case its boot is torn. The process demands one to remove boot retaining clamps, slide housing and bushing off spider assembly, as well as removing spider assembly from axleshaft. Then slide stop ring off axleshaft, clean old grease out of housing and spider assembly. Each bearing was removed with care before being cleaned up and inspected too. Applying CV joint grease onto inner bearing surfaces then slided bearing over them should follow this step. Reinstall the boot, stop ring, Spider Bearing, Spider Retaining Ring and Spider Assembly respectively.
