Chevrolet Express Turn Signal Switch Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove and install the multi-function switch located on the steering column on Chevrolet Express?
A: The multi-function switch is situated on the steering column, with the turn signal/multifunction lever on the left side controlling lighting functions such as Headlights, turn signal lights, windshield wipers, windshield washer, and, if equipped, the cruise control system. Ensure the turn signal/multi-function lever is in the OFF position and disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery, waiting at least two minutes to allow the airbag system's capacitor to discharge. Remove the steering wheel and the knee bolster, and for 2003 and earlier models, take out the key lock cylinder. Next, remove the steering column covers and the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) retainer, disconnecting the electrical connector from the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) assembly. For 2003 and earlier models, cut any cable ties securing the Ignition Switch wiring harness to the multi-function switch wiring harness and remove the bolt securing the ignition switch and multi-function switch electrical connectors. Separate the ignition switch electrical connector from the turn signal and multi-function switch electrical connector, then remove the turn signal/multi-function switch mounting screws to detach the switch from the steering column assembly. Installation follows the reverse order of removal.
