Chevrolet Express EGR Valve Parts Questions & Experts Answers
A: Mixing oxygen and nitrogen in a combustion chamber results in compounds called NOx or Nitrogen Oxides. They are produced at high temperatures in the combustion chamber. In the presence of sunlight, reactive organic compounds and NOx from tailpipes undergo ozone formation that result to photochemical smog. NOx is reduced by EGR system because it takes exhaust gases back through the engine, which cools it hence minimizing NOx production. The system combines various sensors, an EGR valve and PCM. With its feedback circuit controlling the pintle valve's position, the EGR valve is managed by PCM. This will cause problems with the engine if the EGR flow increases or decreases beyond normal levels. For instance, when replacing the EGR valve or pipe, make sure you unplug the electrical connector, remove mounting bolts and discard old gasket. Finally put everything back together using a new gasket and tighten all bolts securely.
