Chevrolet El Camino Timing Chain

Chevrolet El Camino The Timing Chain There is a Timing Chain that is vital in the Chevrolet El Camino cars as it ensures the camshaft and crankshaft rotate in harmony so as to allow the right valve timing to the car engine. Located at the front of the engine this element needs lubrication in order to properly function during the combustion process. As for timing chains, metal ones are used since the 1990s, while rubber ones are used as timing belts, and the latter has several disadvantages in comparison with chains, such as relatively high frequency of replacement. Chevrolet about El Camino models especially those equipped with pushrod engines are fitted with short chain drives and these are preferred to gear drives because of reduced noise and wear that is as a result of torque reversals. Timing chains are pretty dependable although problems can come from lack of oiling and problem with the tensioner and chain guards that are discernable from a rhythmic sound at the front of the engine. In general, the Timing Chain is one of the crucial components that contribute to the Chevrolet El Camino vehicles' reliability and durability.

Each OEM Chevrolet El Camino Timing Chain we offer is competitively priced and comes with the assurance of the manufacturer's warranty for the part. Furthermore, we guarantee the speedy delivery of your orders right to your doorstep. Our hassle-free return policy is also in place for your peace of mind.

Chevrolet El Camino Timing Chain Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you remove and install the timing chain and sprockets in V6 engine on Chevrolet El Camino?
A: Remove the timing chain cover and temporarily install the harmonic balancer bolt and washer in the end of the crankshaft. Turn the crankshaft so that the sprocket timing marks are positioned toward each other, then remove the harmonic bolt and washer without changing the position of the sprockets, using a sharp tap on the wrench handle if necessary. Next, remove the front crankshaft oil slinger and the camshaft sprocket bolts, followed by the Oil Pan. Use two large screwdrivers to carefully pry the camshaft sprocket and then the crankshaft sprocket forward alternately until the camshaft sprocket is free, then remove both the camshaft sprocket and chain, and work the crankshaft sprocket off the crankshaft. If the chain is not stretched and parts are to be re-used, clean the timing chain, sprockets, and crankshaft oil slinger thoroughly in the proper solvent. If the engine was not rotated while the chain and sprockets were off, install the sprockets and chain with the timing marks perfectly in line, exactly as they were on removal. If the engine was rotated, temporarily install the sprockets and turn the crankshaft until the number one piston is at Top Dead Center and the camshaft O mark is straight down and on the centerline of both shafts. Remove the sprockets and assemble the timing chain on both sprockets, sliding the chain assembly onto the shafts with the O marks in their closest together positions and in line with the sprocket hubs. Assemble the oil slinger on the crankshaft with the inside diameter against the sprocket, then install the camshaft sprocket bolts and torque-tighten to specifications. Finally, install the oil pan using a new gasket and the timing chain cover.
