Chevrolet El Camino Ignition Coil

The Ignition Coil plays a very important role in that it takes the 12 volts supply from the battery and transforms it to the required high voltage (between 15,000 to 40,000 volts) that can ignite the air/fuel mixture in Chevrolet EL CAMINO vehicle engine cylinders. This component closely connects the primary and secondary circuits of the ignition system, using the two Insulated Copper Coil with an Iron core to offer the right amount of voltage. Depending on the year and trim level Chevrolet El Camino have used different types of Ignition Coils namely, Single coil, Distributor Ignition Systems, Coil-On-Plug Ignition Systems, and Dual-Output Ignition Systems. The primary difference between them is based on the design and characteristics, for example, COP systems connect to each spark plug, while DIS systems use several coils for two cylinders and any particular spark is a 'waste spark' By knowing all these characteristics it will be easier to maintain and repair the Chevrolet El Camino ignition system.

Each OEM Chevrolet El Camino Ignition Coil we offer is competitively priced and comes with the assurance of the manufacturer's warranty for the part. Furthermore, we guarantee the speedy delivery of your orders right to your doorstep. Our hassle-free return policy is also in place for your peace of mind.

Chevrolet El Camino Ignition Coil Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the coil on Chevrolet El Camino?
A: For models before 1974 the process includes disconnecting electrical connections of the unit, and two screws for mounting, which should be marked for reinstallation. For models manufactured from 1975 and up you should begin by removing the battery wire and harness connector from the Distributor Cap. Then, there is the coil cover which is fixed with three screws and the coil assembly which is fixed by four screws. The best thing to do is to ensure one notes the position of each wire or remove the labels if any then the removal of the coil ground wire as well as the pushing of the leads from the underside of the connectors to remove the coil from the distributor cap. Installation is done in the order of what is illustrated in the figure above and keen attention should be given to the leads to link them to their correct places.
