For all the model year 1969 to 1977, you begin by unscrewing the negative terminal of the battery. Then, remove the instrument panel pad secured by means of six screws: on some vehicles, it is required to take out the left radio speaker and put it aside. To gain better access to the rocker switches pull the headlamp control knob towards you to 'On'. For ease in viewing, stand besides the car at the left, then take your hand in behind the instrument panel, push the switch shaft retainer and pull out the knob and the shaft. Slide the switches assembly along with the nut ferrule back out of the instrument panel and put back in place in the reverse of the process. Models from 1978 have similar removal as before, but the instrument panel pad is retained, so that the instrument bezel must be removed to gain access to the switch; from here the switch may be pulled down and out from under the instrument panel.
