Chevrolet El Camino Brake Booster

Brake Booster is an important component located in Chevrolet El Camino cars and its primary goal is to improve the car's braking performance by decreasing the level of efforts required from the driver. It mainly functions through vacuum which takes the pressure between the engine's vacuum and the actual air pressure to increase the force exerted by the brake pedal. This system usually comprises of a diaphragm and piston within a shell thus assisting in the transmission of the increased force to the master cylinder. For many years models of Chevrolet El Camino have had brake boosters that use vacuum as well as hydraulic options. Vacuum boosters are usually smooth but may fail at times while hydraulic boosters makes uses of the pressure from the power steering pump or an electric motor for assistance. There are performance brake boosters and conversion kits in the market for individuals who intend to restore their or customize their El Camino and they come with diaphragm in different capabilities and sizes for different brake requirements.

Furthermore, we guarantee the speedy delivery of your orders right to your doorstep. Our hassle-free return policy is also in place for your peace of mind.

Chevrolet El Camino Brake Booster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you remove and install the power brake booster and master cylinder on Chevrolet El Camino?
A: Remove the securing nuts that hold the master cylinder to the power brake unit and position the master cylinder out of the way, taking care not to strain the hydraulic lines. If there is any doubt about the flexibility of the fluid lines, disconnect them at the cylinder and plug the ends. Disconnect the vacuum hose leading to the front of the power brake booster and cover the end of the hose. Loosen the four nuts that secure the booster to the firewall without removing them at this time. Inside the car, disconnect the power brake push rod from the brake pedal without forcing it to the side. Fully remove the four booster mounting nuts and carefully lift the unit out of the engine compartment. For installation, loosely install the four mounting nuts, connect the push rod to the brake pedal, torque-tighten the attaching nuts, and reconnect the vacuum hose and master cylinder. If the hydraulic brake fluid lines were disconnected, the master cylinder and the entire braking system should be bled to eliminate any air that has entered the system.
