Chevrolet Cruze Brake Master Cylinder

The Brake Master Cylinder in Chevrolet Cruze vehicles in a vital part of the car brakes, it transmits force from the driver's foot to hydraulic pressure to move the slave cylinders. This mechanism employs hydraulic pressure to compress brake fluid applying force to calipers or the drum brakes to produce the friction that is required to halt the car. The Chevrolet Cruze usually employs a dual circuit master cylinder, to make sure that in the event one circuit gets compromised, the other remains functional acting as a back up in case of an emergency thereby improving safety. Brake master cylinder of Chevrolet Cruze models can incorporate cast iron or aluminum housing and can be equipped by integrated or separate fluid reservoir. The integral reservoirs are characterized by the presence of only one cap while the external ones can have only one or two threaded caps. However, as time is passing by, problems like the leakage of fluids or some internal malfunction can occur, and it needs rigorous assessment to ensure that the brake is in its premier performance. Another important component in a car that helps in braking is the Chevrolet Cruze's Brake Master Cylinder that helps in brake function the vehicle under all condition.

Chevrolet Cruze Brake Master Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you replace the master cylinder on Chevrolet Cruze?
A: The Brake Master Cylinder is located in the engine compartment, mounted to the power Brake Booster. Begin by disconnecting the negative battery cable. Remove as much fluid as possible from the reservoir using a suction gun or an old turkey baster. For models with a manual transaxle, disconnect the clutch fluid hose from the Brake Master Cylinder reservoir and plug the line or wrap it with a plastic bag, taking care to cover all painted surfaces to prevent damage from brake fluid. Remove the coolant expansion tank from its bracket without disconnecting the hoses. Place rags under the fluid fittings and prepare caps or plastic bags to cover the ends of the lines after disconnection. Loosen the fittings at the ends of the Brake Lines where they enter the Brake Master Cylinder, using a flare-nut wrench to avoid rounding off the corners. Pull the brake lines slightly away from the Brake Master Cylinder and plug the ends to prevent contamination. Disconnect the electrical connector at the brake fluid level switch on the Brake Master Cylinder reservoir, ensuring to pull back the locking tab before removal, then remove the nuts attaching the Brake Master Cylinder to the power booster and pull it out of the engine compartment, being cautious not to spill fluid. If installing a new Brake Master Cylinder, drive out the two retaining pins to transfer the reservoir to the new unit, checking the condition of the Brake Master Cylinder-to-booster seal and replacing it if necessary. Bench bleed the new Brake Master Cylinder by mounting it in a vise and attaching a pair of bleeder tubes to the outlet ports, filling the reservoir with the recommended brake fluid. Slowly push the pistons into the Brake Master Cylinder to expel air into the reservoir, repeating until no more air bubbles are present. Remove the bleed tubes and install plugs in the open ports, then install the reservoir cap. Install the Brake Master Cylinder over the studs on the power brake booster and tighten the new attaching nuts only finger tight initially. Install a new O-ring onto the sleeve of the Brake Master Cylinder, then thread the brake line fittings into the Brake Master Cylinder by hand, ensuring they start straight. Tighten the mounting nuts to the specified torque and secure the brake line fittings. Connect the brake fluid switch electrical connector and, for models with manual transaxles, reconnect the fluid hose from the clutch Brake Master Cylinder. Fill the Brake Master Cylinder reservoir with fluid, then bleed the Brake Master Cylinder and brake system by having an assistant depress the brake pedal while loosening the fitting to allow air and fluid to escape, repeating until the fluid is clear of air bubbles. Have plenty of rags on hand to catch any fluid, as brake fluid can ruin painted surfaces, and rinse the area under the Brake Master Cylinder with clean water after the bleeding procedure. Finally, test the operation of the brake system carefully before placing the vehicle into normal service.
