A: Only 5.7L (LS1 and LS6) engines are equipped with a Secondary Air Injection (AIR) system. The AIR system includes the electric AIR pump, check valves, and hoses and pipes connecting these components. To remove the AIR injection pump, loosen the left-front wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then remove the left-front wheel. Remove the left-side lower close-out panel and reposition the brake cooling duct. Disconnect the AIR pump electrical connector and hoses, and disengage the pump mounting grommets from the bracket or remove the bolts securing the AIR pump to its mounting bracket. Installation is the reverse of removal. Disconnect the vacuum line and hoses from the shut-off valve. Installation is the reverse of removal. To remove the AIR vacuum control solenoid valve, loosen the right-front wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then remove the right-front wheel. Remove the access panel from the inner fender splash shield. Mark the vacuum lines to the solenoid, then disconnect the lines and electrical connector from the solenoid valve. Remove the solenoid mounting nut and solenoid. Installation is the reverse of removal. To remove the AIR check valve/pipe, remove the intake manifold. Loosen the clamp and AIR hose from the check valve on the right pipe. Remove the bolt for the right side check valve at the rear of the left cylinder head. Remove the AIR pipe mounting bolts and pipe from the right exhaust manifold and maneuver the pipe with check valve out from behind the cylinder heads. Using two wrenches, hold the pipe and unscrew the check valve from the pipe. Installation is the reverse of removal. Disconnect the clamp and hose from the check valve on the left AIR pipe. Using two wrenches, hold the pipe and unscrew the check valve from the pipe. Remove the AIR pipe mounting bolts and pipe from the left exhaust manifold and remove the pipe. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten all fasteners securely.
