A: To remove the air conditioning system, start by having an automotive air conditioning technician discharge it. Then, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal and remove the plastic push-pin type fasteners attaching the battery heat shield. Drain the cooling system and remove the heater pipes and refrigerant pipes. If you have a 5.7L engine, remove the intake manifold and the right side AIR check valve. Remove the air conditioning tube bracket nuts/bolts and cap the lines. Take out the head-up display unit and the instrument panel. Disconnect the cables and electrical connectors from the HVAC unit and remove it from inside the vehicle. Remove the defrost and vent ducts, as well as the heater core cover and clamp. Finally, remove the heater core from the housing. For installation, reverse the removal steps and use new O-rings at the connections. Refill the cooling system and have the air conditioning system evacuated, recharged, and leak tested.
