Running cracks are permissible on ribbed belts to a certain extent and are normally allowed unless they are severe or incised. For replacement, the air intake duct may be required to be taken off and the tensioner should be turned clockwise to counter clockwise to release tension in order to pull of the old belts off. With newer belts the correct positioning has to be established on the required pulleys and should be seated well to allow for the tensioner to be released. Tensioners can also be replaced by using a nuts and bolts approach where the securing bolts are removed and then reinstalled in the reverse manner but the bolts have to be tightened to the right torque value.
