Chevrolet Corvette Clutch Master Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you remove and install the clutch master cylinder on Chevrolet Corvette?
A: Before taking off the clutch master cylinder the following need to be done, remove the negative battery cable. Then, from under the dash unbolt the driver's side under dash panel in order to gain access to the clutch pedal assembly. Secondly, undid the clutch master cylinder pushrod retainer and took off the clutch pushrod from the clutch pedal. Loosen the windshield washer fluid reservoir, then, raise the vehicle and support it properly using jackstands. It is insisted not to let the brake fluid come to the direct contact of the paint and wipe off the excess portion with clean water. On the models up to 2004, to access the right clutch fluid pressure, pull the line of the fluid pressure with a clamp at the rear of the engine and then compress the white ring to release the clutch master hydraulic line. On the year 2005 and also for the later models the retaining clip should be removed and the line should be disconnected from the clutch master cylinder. Lower the vehicle to access the engine compartment and then unbolster the clutch master cylinder reservoir retainer and the reservoir from the bracket. Turn the clutch master cylinder by 45 degrees clockwise and remove it from the firewall taking along with the reservoir. For installation the new clutch master cylinder the master cylinder needs to be slid into the mounting hole with the clutch rod properly oriented 45 degreescounter clockwise. Tighten the nut on the other end of the brace to the bracket, that is it, lower the vehicle and place it on the jackstands. Fit the clutch fluid pressure line to the master cylinder until a click is heard and for 2004 and earlier models insert the retaining clip and for 2005 and models attach the line to the clip. Lift and reinstall the windshield washer fluid reservoir, although for 2005 and later it may be easier to leave the vehicle lifted during this process. Last, working under the dash, engage the clutch master cylinder rod to the clutch pedal assembly, and install the rod retainer as well as the driver side under dash map. Replace the brake fluid that complies with the DOT 3 and bleed the clutch system.
