To release the latch one has to remove the grille and for models which were produced later-the vertical latch support bar. After that, unscrew the bolts keeping the latch assembly in place and take out the latch assembly disconnected the cable end from the latch pulling off the casing on the bracket and then unlatching the end of the cable for the latch lever. For installation, reverse the above procedure and pull the latch to set it as the hood when closed is tightly locked with the hood bumpers slightly depressed. To remove the release cable, the usual cable connected with the hood latch has to be disconnected from the hood latch and , the engine wiring harness and for the installation of the new cable, a little length of wire is required. Let the cable off the clips within the region of the inner fender panel, and inside the automobile, unscrew and detach the hood release handle from the driver's knee bolster panel. With the handle off, twist the cable eye out of the handle assembly and follow the cable towards the grommet at the firewall, while sliding it to the inside while at the same time pulling the handle and cable to the passenger section. Remove the guide wire from it and connect it to the new cable and than pull the wire back through the firewall till the cable is on the latch assembly so that the grommet is fully inserted in the hole in the firewall from the two sides. Lastly, by applying slight pressure from the interior of the car, the grommet will be correctly positioned and to finish the procedure, the operations mentioned under the reversed procedures should be followed.
