Chevrolet Camaro Pressure Plate Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove Clutch Disc,Clutch Fork,Pressure Plate and Release Bearing?
A: To access the clutch components, the transmission needs to be removed from the vehicle while leaving the engine in place. If the engine is being overhauled, it's recommended to check the clutch for wear and replace worn parts. To begin the removal, take out the transmission from the vehicle, supporting the engine with an engine support fixture or hoist. The clutch release cylinder assembly can remain attached to the transmission, but it's advisable to replace it if the transmission is out. Use a clutch alignment tool to support the clutch disc during removal. Inspect the flywheel and pressure plate for indexing marks. Loosen the pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts in a crisscross pattern, removing the bolts followed by the pressure plate and clutch disc. Check the flywheel for defects and have it machined flat if needed. Inspect the clutch disc lining for wear and damage, replacing it if necessary. Replace the release cylinder assembly and clutch disc. Check the pressure plate for defects and glazing, removing light glazing if present. Examine the Pilot Bearing for excessive wear or damage and replace it if needed. Clean the flywheel and pressure plate machined surfaces thoroughly. Position the clutch disc and pressure plate against the flywheel using an alignment tool. Tighten the pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts gradually in a crisscross pattern, centering the clutch disc with the alignment tool. Apply high-temperature grease to the transmission input shaft bearing retainer, and if removed, install the clutch release cylinder assembly. Install the transmission and all the previously removed components.
