A: It is advisable to have an assistant to help with this procedure. Remove the fuel tank filler cap to relieve fuel tank pressure. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Raise the rear of the vehicle and support ii securely on jackstands. Remove the exhaust system. Remove the driveshaft. Drain the fuel tank. Insert a hose through the filler neck and into the bottom of the tank. Siphon or hand pump the fuel from the tank into an approved gasoline container. Disconnect the electrical connector and fuel supply line quick-connect fitting from the Fuel Pump module. Loosen the hose clamps and disconnect the fuel filler neck hose and EVAP system breather hose from the tank. Remove the rear parking brake cables. Reposition the floor jack(s) under the front of the differential or subframe (on each side), then loosen the subframe front bolts so that the fuel tank can be slid out from the front of the subframe. Slowly lower the subframe assembly about two inches. Do not lower it any more than two inches or the brake lines may be damaged. Support the fuel tank securely, then remove the fuel tank retaining strap bolts. Carefully lower the fuel tank. Note: Make sure that none of the hoses or electrical connectors are being caught when the tank is being lowered. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the fuel tank strap bolts to the torque. Reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal, then start the engine and check for fuel leaks.
