Q: How is the antenna base and Antenna Cable accessed and replaced on Chevrolet Camaro?
A: The base of the antenna is mounted on the roof panel for 'Coupe' variants and on the trunk lid panel for 'Convertible' variants. In coupe models, presumably, the work starts with the battery isolation, the removal of the rear window trim panel, and taking out two plastic fasteners located at the rear of the headliner. This allows the headliner's rear section to be lowered to the point where the outer nut of the apparent base of the antenna can be loosened to free the latter from the roof outside without having to completely separate the integral nut. Remove the electrical connection and the antenna cables, disconnect and pull out the base and the harness from the roof, put it in reverse by expanding the roof before putting the antenna base harness through the hole. For convertible models only; disconnect battery, remove the trunk lid trim panel, disconnect both electrical connectors and antenna cable harness connectors, and remove the base and harness from the trunk lid, replace in reverse manner and ensure that the harness for the antenna base is pulled through the trunk lid opening. Further, the battery should be disconnected once again, the C-pillar trim and two more clips at the rear of the headliner have to be removed and pulling down the rear part of the headliner to see the bolt attaching the antenna module; the electrical connectors should be disconnected, the screw holding the module has to be unscrewed and the module removed and put in its place in the reverse manner. Of the items for the antenna coil, in removing it, the rear package tray should be removed, the electrical connectors of the antenna coil to be disconnected; the mounting fastener of the coil is to be removed as is the coil; to install it the process has to be reversed. The antenna cable consists of two cables: The slits are additionally located at front and rear. From the rear the cable contemplates down the right C post, in the trunk and back seat area, along the rocker, under the front and rear door sill panel and carpet to the right kick panel where it connects to the front cable. The front cable travels up along and behind the right lower kick panel, turns left forward of the glove box, and attaches to the top of the rearside of the radio. In case of a faulty cable, remove the connections on both ends and leave a power cable and install a new cable. The rear antenna cable is removed by first removing the back seat cushion, right c pillar, front and rear door sills, front passenger seat and carpeting, right kick panel. Remove the connection of the antenna cable from the antenna module and the front antenna cable and fit a new one. To get to the front antenna cable one would have to remove the right kick panel, the glove box, as well as the radio. Remove the front antenna cable from the radio and the rear antenna cable and then fit in the new cable.
