Q: What should be checked for in the seat belt system?
A: Inspect the seat belts, buckle, latch plate and guide loops to check for evident mutilation or wear. Confirm that the seat belt reminder light illuminates when the key is turned on. Seatbelts are built with a mechanism that allows them to lock up when there is a sudden stop or impact but free movement during normal driving. The retractors must hold your belt against your chest during driving and allow it to go back when you unlatch the buckle. Replace necessary parts if any of these tests indicate a malfunction within the seat belt system.
