Chevrolet C1500 Fuel Tank is a compartment of a vehicle comprising the electric fuel pump and the fuel gauge sender. It has baffles to minimize/eliminate fuel movement, is part of the Evaporative Emission Control System and this container can be of metallic or plastic nature. Metal tanks are made by pushing and welding materials while plastic tanks are made by blowing air in to molds. Each of the two types can undergo corrosion, impacts, and sharp fluctuations in temperature. Fuel cells used in racing are protected against being punctured or spilling the gas in an occasion of an accident. Extra large fuel tank capable of taking extra fuel in military standard polymeric material is provided to provide longer driving range.

Chevrolet C1500 Fuel Tank Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: Why should cleaning and repair of the fuel tank be done by a trained professional?
A: Cleaning and repair of the fuel tank should be done by a trained professional due to the potential danger involved. Even after cleaning, there may still be explosive fumes present. If the tank is removed, it should not be placed near sparks or open flames, especially in a garage with a natural gas appliance.
  • Q: How to remove and clean the fuel tank and surrounding areas?
A: If necessary, clean the fuel tank and areas surrounding the fuel lines and hoses to prevent contaminating the fuel system. Remove the fuel tank filler cap to relieve fuel tank pressure. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Caution: On models equipped with the Theftlock audio system, be sure the lockout feature is turned off before performing any procedure which requires disconnecting the battery. Using a siphoning kit, siphon the fuel into an approved gasoline container. Warning: Do not start the siphoning action by mouth! Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Disconnect the clamp from the fuel filler pipe near the fuel tank and separate the filler pipe. Disconnect the Fuel Pump harness connectors from the pump, if accessible. Remove the fuel tank shield (if equipped) from the bottom of the fuel tank. Some models are equipped with an off-road fuel tank shield that covers the fuel tank straps while others are equipped with fuel tank shields installed between the straps and the tank. Disconnect the fuel supply and return lines. Position a transmission jack under the fuel tank and support the tank. Remove the fuel tank strap bolts and remove the straps. On 1997 and later models, lower the tank slightly and disconnect the electrical connectors from the fuel pump module. Lower the jack and remove the tank from the vehicle. Installation is the reverse of removal.
