Q: How to change the air filter on Chevrolet C1500 and K1500?
A: 1996 and later models are equipped with an air cleaner restriction indicator located in the duct between the mass air flow sensor and the air cleaner. The normally green indicator will turn orange and "CHANGE AIR FILTER" will appear if the filter requires replacement. There is a reset button on top of the unit. Press the button after changing the filter. At the specified intervals, the air filter should be renewed. On 1988 through 1995 TBI models, the air filter is located in a conventional filter housing mounted on top of the Throttle Body. Unscrew the wing nut and lift off the cover. On 1996 and later SFI models, the air filter is located in a plastic filter housing mounted to the right inner fender well. Unsnap the lid retaining clips and pull off the cover. On TBI models, lift out the filter. On SFI models, remove the filter by lifting up the duct and pulling and twisting the filter off the duct. Place the new filter in the housing. Make sure the filter is properly seated and install the housing cover.
