Q: How to remove and replace the front hub and bearing assembly on a Cadillac ElDorado and Fleetwood?
A: Raise and safely support the vehicle, allowing the front suspension to hang free. Remove the wheel and tire assembly. Clean the halfshaft threads of all dirt and lubricant. Insert a drift punch through the caliper and into the rotor to keep the rotor from turning. Then remove the hub nut and washer, if equipped. Remove the caliper without disconnecting the brake hose. Suspend the caliper from the coil spring with wire; do not let it hang by the brake hose. Remove the disc brake rotor. If equipped, detach the anti-lock brake wheel speed sensor connector. Remove the hub and bearing assembly retaining bolts and the dust shield. Use tool J-28733-A or equivalent to separate the hub and bearing assembly from the halfshaft. Apply a light coating of grease to the knuckle bore. Install the new hub and bearing assembly. Draw the hub and bearing assembly onto the halfshaft with a new hub nut. Install the dust shield and the hub and bearing assembly retaining bolts. Tighten to 70 ft. lbs. (95 Nm). If equipped, attach the anti-lock brake wheel speed sensor connector. Install the disc brake rotor and caliper. Insert a drift punch into the caliper and rotor to prevent the rotor from turning. On 1990-91 vehicles, tighten the hub nut to 185 ft. lbs. (251 Nm). On 1992-98 vehicles, tighten the hub nut to 110 ft. lbs. (145 Nm), except on Deville and Fleetwood equipped with J55 brake, in which case the torque is 130 ft. lbs. (177 Nm). Install the wheel and tire assembly and lower the vehicle.
Q: How do you remove and install the hub and bearing assembly on Cadillac ElDorado and Fleetwood?
A: The vehicle should be raised and the support should be safe. Take off the wheel and tire assembly. For Deville and Fleetwood 1990-93 models, remove brake drum, removing the retaining bolts and hub and bearing assembly from the axle. Be cautious around sensor wires of anti-lock brakes; unplug them if necessary. Tightening bolts to 52 ft.Ibs (70Nm), install hub and bearing assembly with retaining bolts. Reconnect anti-lock brake sensor wire as required. Install brake drum, wheel and tire assembly, then lower vehicle. To remove rear brake caliper on Eldorado and Seville 1990-92 models, slacken parking brake cable at adjuster, lift up end of cable spring to free end of cable from lever, take out bolt and washer attaching cable support bracket to caliper, remove caliper mounting bracket bolts and hang caliper in wheel well with wire. Do not disconnect brake hose or let the caliper hang by the hose. If provided, discard disc brake rotor retainers and take away disc brake rotor . Remove hub mounting bolts then remove hub and bearing assembly . Set hub and bearing assembly on knuckle; install mounting bolts . Tighten to 52 ft.Ibs.(70 Nm). Put disc brake rotor , caliper using all new mounting bracket bolts as well as parking brake cable backing plate. Adjust parking brakes . Put on wheel / tire , lowering vehicle. For 1993-98 Eldorado & Seville, & 1994-98 Deville remove parking brake cable bracket from knuckle . Take out & discard caliper mounting bracket bolts . Suspend the caliper in wheel well using wire . Do not disconnect the brake hose or allow the caliper to hang by the hose . Remove disc brake rotor . Remove hub mounting bolts then take out hub & bearing assembly . Fasten these mounting bolts to 52 ft.Ibs.(70 Nm) . Put on disc brake rotor , caliper using new mounting bracket bolts & parking brake cable bracket. Put on wheel and tire , lowering vehicle.
