Cadillac DTS Instrument Panel Light Bulb Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to replace Instrument Panel Light Bulb and Interior Light Bulb on your Cadillac DeVille and DTS?
A: Follow these steps to perform various lighting tasks on your Cadillac. In order to do front cornering lights, first you need to raise the car and unplug the electric connector, then turn the bulb holder counterclockwise to remove it from its housing and replace the bulb. For front park/turn lights on early models, you should unscrew it and separate the housing from body by twisting the bulb holder counterclockwise and removing the bulb. With newer models, take out the Headlight housing to access them so that they can be replaced as well. In order to access rear turn signal, back-up, and brake/tail light bulbs on 1999 Seville models, one must remove trunk components in order to get at bulbs; after which point disconnect the electrical connector and remove by rotating the bulb holder counterclockwise. To remove a taillight assembly on 1999 DeVille models, one needs to remove a Torx bolt; then release it, disconnect tail light assembly electrical connectors under it before replacing with another bulb. Open trunk; remove sill plate, trunk side trim panel, taillight assembly (removing electrical connector), mounting nuts (removing) and replace bulb for all other 2000 or later model years except back-up lights on Sevilles or Devilles. Back up lights for Sevilles of 2000 forward require removal of trunk lid trim panel including fasteners as well as housing which has electric harness connectors that should be disconnected then replaced by another bulb. The same procedure is used for DeVille back-up lights of 2000 or later whereby one opens trunk; removes trunk trim panel; disconnects electrical connector; removes mounting nuts; replaces with different bulb instead. Access through package shelf or trunk inner trim panel by removing housing fasteners in order to remove high-mounted brake light for replacement of bulbs. License plate lamps are serviced whenever required by either taking out the socket assembly or the housing and replacing the bulbs then reinstalling. To replace instrument panel lights, turn Instrument Cluster off, unscrewing it, pulling it out of its socket turning these off; finally twisting them counterclockwise and putting in new ones. Pry off housing around dome lights (2005 and earlier models), remove screws holding together bulb holder housing, separate and replace bulbs. For courtesy lights, take off housing by prying it outwards from switch side until switch is released and entire unit can be rotated out of opening at which stage a burnt-out bulb can be exchanged for new one. To remove vanity light lenses, pry them away from their mounts with a screwdriver; then spread each terminal on either end of the bulb apart to make room for removal. Lower headliner; remove roof rail lamp screw; disconnect electrical connector then change out whole assembly for roof rail courtesy lamps. Reinstallation follows the reverse of removal for each task.
