A: To remove the accumulator, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Then, have an air-conditioning technician discharge and recover the refrigerant. Remove the accumulator cover, if applicable, by unsnapping it from the cover mounting studs. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the accumulator and cap the open fittings to prevent dirt and moisture entry. Also, disconnect the pressure switch connector. Loosen the accumulator bracket clamping screw and lift the accumulator out of the vehicle. For installation, reverse the removal steps using new o-rings or flat sealing washers. Lubricate the new o-rings with clean refrigerant oil at the connection points. If using a flat sealing washer, ensure it is completely seated against the fitting surface without applying oil. If replacing the accumulator, add 3.5 ounces of refrigerant oil to the new one. Finally, have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak tested.
