Q: How do you disconnect and remove the EVAP canister and purge valve on Cadillac CTS?
A: Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal, then open the fuel filler cap to relieve the fuel pressure in the tank and remove the engine covers. For 3.2L V6 engines, disconnect the EVAP canister purge valve vacuum line from the top of the intake manifold, the coil pack electrical connector, the electrical connector from the canister purge valve, and the EVAP line quick-connect fittings. Remove the purge valve and mounting bracket as a single assembly, then detach the purge valve from the mounting bracket, with installation being the reverse of removal. For all 2009 and earlier models except 3.2L V6 engines, disconnect the purge line quick-connect fittings from the purge valve, the electrical connector from the canister purge valve, loosen the mounting bracket, and remove the purge valve, again reversing the process for installation. For 2010 and later models, disconnect the electrical connector from the canister purge valve, the EVAP line quick-connect fittings, and remove the canister purge valve mounting bolt to take the valve from the manifold, with installation being the reverse of removal. The EVAP canister is located under the vehicle, above the rear suspension and subframe; raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, then remove the rear subframe and suspension, disconnect the electrical connector and the vapor hose quick-connect fitting from the EVAP canister vent solenoid, disconnect the two EVAP line quick-connect fittings from the EVAP canister, remove the mounting fasteners securing the canister, and take out the canister, with installation being the reverse of removal. For the EVAP canister vent solenoid, remove the rear subframe and suspension, disconnect the canister vent solenoid electrical connector, rotate the valve counterclockwise, and remove it from the canister, with installation being the reverse of removal.
